A few random tips for media types who want to interview/photograph transgender people

If you are interested in doing an article about a trans person there is a very good post on Wikihow about this but....

there is one topic it kinda skips over ....

Respecting boundaries.

Asking a trans person, especially a young enthusiastic trans advocate to do something they are uncomfortable with is wrong, and there are very good reasons why you shouldn't persist in said requests.

Media types please understand that....

  • Asking a trans person for their 'before and after' pictures is a no no.
  • It does not matter if those pictures are from 20 years ago or..
  • from this morning before they shave (trans woman)
Its a space that really should be respected and  as a photographer and a human you can understand this, I am sure.

Most young trans advocates feel obliged to honor requests that further transparency and will feel guilt if they don't act on them even if it endangers their lives.

Please remember, media types, these pictures will follow a person the rest of their lives and there are some, like TERF's, who would delight in antagonizing them with said photos, for the rest of their lives.

Please respect our boundaries and human dignity, well thank you and live longer for it.

Thank you,
